Styling A Table For Valentine’s Day

It is a special time of year-Valentine’s Day, my partner Edwin’s birthday and other momentous things that I will soon disclose. How can I make this year special I wonder?

I know – I’ll set up a romantic dining table in the living room. That will get his attention.

I love that one can buy flowers at the corner market in Manhattan. Deli Rose was my name in a past life.

Lots of great colors available, but for this occasion, something I never do. Red roses… so cliché…

Though red may be cliché, it is also classic. Red is romantic and aggressive. It gets the heart racing.

Polish silver, check. Make glasses and plates sparkle, check.

This white bowl filled with red apples and red berries will pop against the crystal and black vases I’ll be using for the roses.

White and gold china adds contrast and anchors the white fruit bowl. I’ll keep going the route of more is more.

But first – festive reinforcements and moral support, so I reach for my favorite red Armani.

Ah, that’s better.

Now I inject some more character and personality by adding vintage candle sticks and a crystal candelabra. That gives the table more visual depth.

David Hicks only approved of natural bee’s wax candles, but I will add a few red ones to tart it up a bit.

Wine and candle light are essential. Only one thing left to do…

Dim the lights and…
